I am a dynamic figure, often seen scaling walls and training dogs. Occasionally, I tread water for three days in a row. I am an expert in stucco, a veteran in love, and an outlaw in Peru. Using only a hoe and a large glass of water, I once single-handedly defended a small village in the Amazon basin from a horde of ferocious army ants. I am an abstract artist, a concrete analyst, and a ruthless knitter. I am a private citizen, yet I receive fan mail. I once read Paradise Lost, Moby Dick, and David Copperfield in one day and still had time to re-drywall my entire dining room that evening. I know the exact location of every food item in every Costco. The laws of physics do not apply to me. I balance, I weave, I dodge, I frolic, and my bills are all paid. Years ago I discovered the meaning of life, but forgot to write it down.
Not really.
I knit, I garden, I know what a gerund is and I buy too many shoes. I talk about politics and religion. I'm a story teller and a community member, and a wife to Mr. Spit, mum to 2 dogs, 2 cats and a baby boy named Gabriel.
Gabriel was born 15 weeks too soon, in December 2007 as a result of severe pre-eclampsia. We were privileged to have him here for half an hour. We held him, rocked him and sang to him before we gave him to the God who so graciously allowed us to be his mum and dad. He is not with us, but we proclaim his Resurrection, we believe we will see him again. We will miss him until we do.
This blog is about living life after your child has died, about the joys and sorrows of being a wife, a mum, a human being.
